School Feeding Program

Project Description

School Feeding Project supplies high energy biscuit to total 2,103 students of 16 government primary schools in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban hill district. Goal of the project is to enhance enrolments, attendance, reduces drop-out rates and improving micronutrient deficiencies. Total 4 staff ( male-3, female-1) are deployed in the working areas for smooth functioning the project. Community mobilization workshop is organized for parents at school level on importance of education/value of education. Parents, teachers and SMC members are provided training on de-warming, personal health care, hygiene and nutrition, fruit and vegetable gardening. After implementing the project, attendance rate and enrolment rate increased to 95%. Child malnutrition reduced. Skin diseases reduced. Parents are aware of the importance of education and nutritional value. The project is effectively managed. Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) of government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and World Food Program (WFP) finance the project. Yearly budget of the project is 1,385,520 taka. Project budget is increased every year based on price hike of market commodities. The project continuing since January, 2012.
